Last Thursday (25th), the European Union released a study on bio-fuel highlighting Brazil as the most efficient producer from an environmental point of view. Sugar cane ethanol was also considered the main alternative to the use of fossil fuels, capable of reducing carbon emissions by up to 71% in relation to gasoline.
The data suggests that the block takes up commercial measures to make an increase in the importation of Brazilian ethanol feasible. The EU?s goal is to have a 10% usage of renewable energies by 2020. For the transportation segment, this represents an increase to 5.6% in the use of bio fuels ? and avoid the emission of a 13 million ton of CO2 in 20 years.
The report also gives Brazilian ethanol an ecological efficiency stamp, similar to the one given by the United States? Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in February.
